I bought the HP J3680 for my small business. I needed dependable printing of invoices and mailing labels, plus the ability to copy and scan. I also wanted a printer I could take on the road if I had to. The HP J3680 fit those requirements like no other printer I could find. On top of all that, I found a great price on Amazon.com

Caveats: I've used this only for printing black and white text.

Pros: Compact. Easy setup (Mac). Built in phone. Ink available everywhere. Takes up very little space on desk. The copier has many features to customize your job. The menu prompts are easy to follow. The phone (yes, even a phone!) has good sound.

Cons: Printing not the fastest, but the quality is exceptional. Cartridges are a bit finicky when being changed, but you'll get the hang of it once you've done it.

Originally reviewed this printer in mid-2008 and reserved 1 star due to not knowing long-term performance. Have now had this item well over one year, and it is still going strong. Print quality is exceptional; copies look like originals. Fax works great and so does the scanner. Phone is a bonus. Best price was on line--including shipping, it cost less than at my local store. I have not had this printer for very long, and it is not my primary printer. I purchased it because I was looking for a printer that had a copy function that would copy legal size paper and had an atomatic document feeder. The price on the newer ones with these features are out of my price range and the ink is more expensive. I have always enjoyed my HP products so that was another +. I took a while to set up since I had to buy ink and a USB cable as I thought it came with the printer, I would have liked to have had this made clear to me before and I could have bought one with everything included but I set it up last night except the fax because I now have to buy a spliter but it seems to work when I used my phone line for it instead of my laptop, the printer is a bit loud but works great the ink cartridges a tricky to put in but got them in eventually just be careful not to touch the gold part and the ink nossles and dont tilt the printer with the ink in in this will damage it, other than that the machine pretty much tells you what to do, I had trouble finding instructions to connect to a laptop maybe I am a dumb blonde LOL hope this helps allGet more detail about HP J3680 Officejet All-in-One Printer.

I needed a fax machine for my home office. I did not want to spend too much but did not want a regular fax machine because of the special cartridges, etc. I use this machine for outgoing faxes mainly. Very convenient. One of these models, purchased on sale for $50, has come in very handy after my previous all-in-one fax machine died.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the high quality of even photograph prints, although the machine has only two ink cartridges, not four. My last all-in-one, the Epson CX9400Fax, had an extremely temperamental set of four cartridges, which ran dry in the blink of an eye and could not be refilled, and frequently were "not recognized" at all. At long last, the machine did not run, even for faxing, and had to be replaced. (Fortunately it was still under warranty.)

This HP, by contrast, also has a much smaller footprint. It has a huge advantage over most all-in-one machines---a hand held head set. This makes it possible to send faxes even through international calling cards, when necessary, rather than paying the exorbitant phone rates generally charged by land line carriers. For those all-in-one machines without hand sets, that option is off the table. It's dial direct, with no intermediaries, or forget faxing.

Moreover, the paper seems to feed reliably (another problem with the Epson).

I use this fax machine for my business, and it's great. Just remember to get extra ink when you buy it, the ink they give you dosent last long. Was a little bit complicated to set up, and the ink was hard to get in (the directions pretty much sucked at explaning how to do it) , but once you do it once you will be a pro at it. This printer is an excellent choice for a personal printer / home office. I purchased the HP J3680 after doing some research on-line. Reviews from users were favourable, the price was cheap so I took a chance and purchased. I am so glad I did. It has performed very well. Quality is very good for the price. In fact I was pleasantly surprised. I am able to share copies with co-workers, file for review etc. Scanner works very well. Its not a flat window scanner so you have to feed the document to copy into the machine. This might inhibit some users who want to copy portions of a book for example. But otherwise its excellent. I had to give this printer one star so I could post the review. It deserves no star.

I bought this printer after reading the glowing reviews here. I feel like I have been duped. The first of these printers that I received would not work properly. It would feed through one piece of paper all the way, then a second sheet halfway and stop. No troubleshooting for this problem was available in the online manual. Assuming I had bad luck with a lemon, I returned it to the store and got a second. During the installation process, I received an error message that the faceplate was not installed and to reinstall it. It was sitting firmly in its place. I called customer support. After 2 hours on the phone with them, the face plate issue was resolved, but the scanner would not work. Figuring I could live without the scanner, I carried on. After printing 4 short documents, the paper feed problem that the first printer had reared its ugly head. I am returning this printer and will never buy another HP product again. My printer arrived in a timely manner. From then on, everything else went downhill. When I tried to use it, it does not work. I was getting "Paper Jam" errors even though there was not any paper. I didn't even get a chance to complete the installation process because of the stupid "Paper Jam" message.

I spoke with HP's (outsourced) customer service department, and they went through all of the troubleshooting steps that are also posted on the website. I should note that the kind of paper that I use doesn't matter when I get error messages before I even put a paper in the machine. I went back and forth with HP's customer service department, and they confirmed what I already knew... that my printer was in need of a replacement.

They were to send me a replacement printer. I got a confirmation e-mail, telling me that my printer would be sent out. However, the HP website had an old address. I sent an e-mail to HP, and I received a confirmation that they received my new address. But, when I called a U.S. customer service line, I was told that they only had my previous address. I was then switched over to a customer service representative whose grasp of English was not that firm. After talking (and waiting) for about 40 minutes with her, I was told that they had my new address.

However, I still have not received my printer. I guess that when the replacement printer gets here, I'll be able to submit a review on the printer itself, and not the customer service with HP.Get more detail about HP J3680 Officejet All-in-One Printer.
